Ambient Devices Announces Partnership with Hydro One

BOSTON --(Business Wire)--

Ambient Devices, the leading provider of displays and systems that deliver instant, effortless access to information at a glance, today announced the launch of a pilot program with Hydro One Networks Inc. (Hydro One), an electric utility based in Ontario, Canada. The program will see Hydro One delivering Ambient's (News - Alert) Energy Joule to select customers to encourage them to take advantage of using electricity when it costs less.

The Energy Joule is ZigBee Certified and enables consumers and utilities to make smarter energy consumption choices by transforming wireless data from the home's smart meter into immediate, glanceable information about energy pricing and consumption. Its elegant display monitors and communicates changes in energy prices by glowing a varying range of colors. When the device glows red, energy prices are high; yellow, price are above average; and green, prices are average or below average.

"Ambient Devices is pleased to partner with Hydro One for this pilot program," said Pritesh Gandhi, CEO of Ambient Devices. "This partnership marks a dynamic and necessary shift towards utility customer education by providing easy access to user-friendly smart grid information to drive smarter energy consumption choices."

"Hydro One is committed to offering its customers innovative and simple solutions to help them manage their energy consumption. Ambient Devices' Energy Joule is an exciting energy management tool that will provide our customers with information about their energy consumption in one quick glance," said George Katsuras, Manager, Business Integration, Hydro One. "Our customers will be able to take the information displayed on the device and make instant decisions on how to shift or reduce their energy usage."

Ambient's line of energy products, including the Energy Joule, enable utility companies to relay energy consumption and demand response information in real-time, reducing stress on the electrical grid and increasing customer satisfaction. In pilot programs with utilities across the United States, Ambient's energy products have proven to reduce individual household energy consumption by up to 25%, as explained in this independent study conducted by The Brattle Group.

WebRTC Security Concerns

This whitepaper covers two of the most relevant topics in communications industry today: WebRTC and security. We will introduce the problem of security in WebRTC including those traditional VoIP attacks that are going to be present in WebRTC services. Migrating Real Time Communications Services to the Web

In the Internet age, businesses that own fixed and mobile communication networks, including traditional Communications Service Providers (CSPs) of all kinds, are being challenged with some tough questions: How do we stay relevant to our customers?

Delivering Enterprise-Class Communications with WebRTC

WebRTC is an emerging industry standard for enabling Web browsers with real-time communications capabilities. It enables enterprises to enhance Web sites, empower BYOD users, and improve video collaboration and on-line meetings, to name but a few examples.

Robust Enterprise Grade WebRTC Systems and Services

The emerging WebRTC standard has become one of the industry's hottest topics – and with good reason. Being able to "communications enable the web" has Communications Service Providers as well as Enterprises busily making plans for deployment. But, as these plans unfold, reality is starting to intrude on those plans. Our expectations of telephony services are much higher than web browsing. We expect the phone to connect instantly, operate with minimal disruption, and work seamless across any network, anywhere, at any time. There is also an understanding that phone service is inherently secure. With WebRTC, the expectation is for these applications to behave in the same manner.

This session looks at the user experience and expectations of a WebRTC Enterprise service. It will also cover how a WebRTC enterprise handles security, reliability, and interoperability within browsers and networks.

Communication Service Provider (CSP) voice service revenues continue to face pressure due to shifts in communication preferences and competition from non-traditional service providers. Voice communications are now often embedded into applications outside the domain of traditional telephony voice usage. CSPs have been challenged to effectively leverage and monetize new web-oriented communications technologies.
