Czech Electricity Transmission System Operator, CEPS, Implements Situational Intelligence for Grid Visualization and Analysis

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SAN MATEO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/23/13 -- Space-Time Insight, the leading provider of next-generation situational intelligence solutions, today announced that CEPS, the operator of the electricity transmission system in the Czech Republic has successfully deployed Situational Intelligence System Solution (called SGS) developed by Unicorn Systems. SGS provides CEPS control dispatchers with near real-time geospatial and intuitive visual analytics capabilities, enabling them to make quicker and more effective decisions in control of the electrical transmission system.

CEPS's mission is to ensure the reliable operation and further development of the Czech transmission system, facilitate international cooperation with regard to interconnected networks and provide transmission system users with electricity transfer, system services and non-discriminatory access to the transmission system at competitive prices. The innovative SGS system visualizes and analyzes massive volumes of data contained in Information Technology, Operations, and GIS systems across space, time and node. By providing more comprehensive, timely, and actionable insight into the operational state of the electricity system infrastructure, the system enables CEPS to lower risk and increase transmission system reliability and safety.

In the words of Jirí Rýznar, Head of Energy Control and Information Systems Department in CEPS, a spokesperson for CEPS, "Using situational intelligence our dispatchers can ensure that at any given moment the generation and consumption of electricity is balanced. The software also helps us renew, maintain, and develop the transmission system, and grant to all electricity market participants, more reliable and safe access to the transmission network, subject to equal and transparent conditions." In the primary implementation, SGS obtains meteorological information (temperature, lightning, wind direction and force, frost, sunlight, etc.), information about failures in the transmission system, and visually overlays those on the transmission system of the Czech Republic (posts, transmission lines, distributors). The data obtained is displayed in near-real time and historical information and predictions are shown for a 48-hour period. This gives dispatchers an immediate overview of the meteorological influences on the transmission network in user-selected places and times, and makes it possible to rapidly and precisely identify failure points.

The system was developed and deployed using Space-Time Insight's situational intelligence software by Unicorn Systems, a strategic partner of Space-Time Insight in the Central and Eastern European region.

As Rob Massoudi, Senior Vice President, Business Development for Space-Time Insight noted: "Space-Time Insight's situational intelligence solutions combined with the expertise of partners like Unicorn Systems are helping companies around the world better manage and protect their critical infrastructure while providing enhanced reliability and safety to their customers." "I am very happy that we have managed to complete the SGS deployment at CEPS so quickly and according to plan. With it, dispatching staff have acquired another tool to help them respond to unforeseen situations faster and more accurately. Situational intelligence is a promising field that offers our company a number of opportunities in other European countries as well," said Jan Konrád, International Services Director, Unicorn Systems.

Migrating Real Time Communications Services to the Web

In the Internet age, businesses that own fixed and mobile communication networks, including traditional Communications Service Providers (CSPs) of all kinds, are being challenged with some tough questions: How do we stay relevant to our customers?

Delivering Enterprise-Class Communications with WebRTC

WebRTC is an emerging industry standard for enabling Web browsers with real-time communications capabilities. It enables enterprises to enhance Web sites, empower BYOD users, and improve video collaboration and on-line meetings, to name but a few examples.

Robust Enterprise Grade WebRTC Systems and Services

The emerging WebRTC standard has become one of the industry's hottest topics – and with good reason. Being able to "communications enable the web" has Communications Service Providers as well as Enterprises busily making plans for deployment. But, as these plans unfold, reality is starting to intrude on those plans. Our expectations of telephony services are much higher than web browsing. We expect the phone to connect instantly, operate with minimal disruption, and work seamless across any network, anywhere, at any time. There is also an understanding that phone service is inherently secure. With WebRTC, the expectation is for these applications to behave in the same manner.

This session looks at the user experience and expectations of a WebRTC Enterprise service. It will also cover how a WebRTC enterprise handles security, reliability, and interoperability within browsers and networks.

ORACLE COMMUNICATIONS WEBRTC SESSION CONTROLLER SOLUTION

Communication Service Provider (CSP) voice service revenues continue to face pressure due to shifts in communication preferences and competition from non-traditional service providers. Voice communications are now often embedded into applications outside the domain of traditional telephony voice usage. CSPs have been challenged to effectively leverage and monetize new web-oriented communications technologies.
