Radisys vMRF Wins TMC 2015 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award
TMC has given Radisys a 2015 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award for its Virtualized Media Resource Function (vMRF).
The vMRF is a software server that lets carriers offer services like VoLTE, RCS and WebRTC with a lower total cost of ownership by avoiding extra video processing hardware.
“Recent enhancements extending our IMS MRF to support ETSI’s NFV architecture and cloud deployments have helped make Radisys the media processing solution of choice for leading companies such as Nokia, ZTE, Mitel, Metaswitch and Oracle,” said Grant Henderson, vice president of Media Engine and corporate marketing for Radisys. “This award further validates our 15 years of leadership and innovation in real-time media processing solutions and Radisys’ strategy of transitioning to a services acceleration company with a focus on software and systems.”
The vMRF is compatible with existing hypervisors, including VMware, KVM and Openstack orchestration managers, meaning it can fit into a virtualized environment. The virtualization support makes it easy in turn for carriers to incorporate vMRF into cloud environments. vMRF supports Amazon EC2, a major cloud provider.
vMRF can scale its HD video to match the capabilities of the devices accessing the server, making the video accessible to the broadest userbase possible.
The system will allow carriers to offer OTT services like WebRTC to its customers and perhaps get some of the revenue that would normally go to other services like Skype. With a virtualized, software-based solution, they’ll be able to offer these new services much more quickly than if they had to wire in hardware video processors themselves.
“Congratulations to Radisys for being honored with a 2015 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award,” TMC CEO Rich Tehrani said. “Radisys’ MediaEngine vMRF is truly an innovative product and is amongst the best solutions that facilitate voice, data and video communications brought to market in the past twelve months. I look forward to continued excellence from Radisys in 2015 and beyond.”
